Made in 3rd world

Main street, Limassol

Immigration in Cyprus is massive, mostly from developing countries. A total of 15% of South Cyprus population consists of immigrants, of which one third came illegally from Asia.

Most of the immigrants are young women, working in small factories spread around old city center.
Minimum wage in this country is 700 EUR for full time jobs, but in the cases of immigrants from third world countries there is a special clause which makes minimum wage 300 EUR. However this is a much better salary than what they could get in their countries.

Promenade, Limassol, is the place where many of these immigrants, especially from Asia, come every weekend, to enjoy a nice day out or trade everything – from vegetables to clothes.

Greek Cypriots have a high standard of living, Cyprus economical indicators being in the first from EU. The country had an economical boom due to low taxation laws which attracted foreign investments and the modernization of the island which highly improved its tourism. Following EU trends, Cyprus has an aged population and following old island laws (strongly related to the Orthodox Church) this is a highly patriarchal society.

Just like weakness attracts predators, so are the city’s men attracted to these young girls living in Cyprus. Mostly uneducated but wealthy, these men break social and moral conventions powered by libidinal desires.

Wearing golden crucifixes (as this is a highly religious society) they try to get the girls in their cars, giving them the illusion of a better life.

Foarte frumoasa serie!

Din pacate aceasta este soarta multor imigrante, nu numai in Cipru.

Felicitari pentru serie si mai ales mesaj!

Oh well, the third world is coming out - slowly but thoroughly, with all the advantages and misfortunes. I was impressed by their weekend gatherings, by their effort and diligence and their interesting type of submission. As for the side-effects - they come with the package. I'm not insensitive. I have this picture in mind: a young Asian figure walking three steps behind an old local woman who hired her for house chores and shopping. Is is just a humble attitude? I'm leaving you and your other fans to fill in the space with the wildest theories (don't skip the conspiracy plans, they're so fashionable!)
Ha ha and ha!

Ilinca, mulțumesc frumos! Da, sunt foarte multe în aceiași situație, oriunde. Pentru că niște legi generale guvernează fiecare părticică din societățile astea scârboase. :)

Cisu, but when the third world will come out, we will be zero word, so the difference will be the same. Our minimum wage will always be higher than theirs. Should the Asian figure be humble in a professional contract like that ? Should I be humble to the people that pay me for more than 60% from my time ? No. They should thank me for it. The Asian girls are neater and nicer than most local girls, they just did not had the chance of being born in a society that praises superficiality and where barbecued meat is archetypal. They should be proud. We should be proud. There's no conspiracy here, the one with the bigger club rules, it always was the same, but we changed the appearance. Some of us still dream of that ideal utopist socialism. Unfortunately we live in the perfect fascism, calling it democracy. My two cents.

Dl Niculescu, mulțumesc frumos. Am fost cumva colegi, sunteți jurnalist? Dacă nu vă confund, mă simt onorat...
